Golden, CO — Software
Bisque, a leading astronomy software publisher, has begun shipping version
5 of TheSky astronomy software for Windows 95, 98 and NT. Version 5 is
loaded with useful new features for beginning and amateur astronomers,
along with huge databases of celestial objects and fascinating pictures.
A few of the exciting new features
include an improved, interactive three-dimensional solar system mode that
lets you view the orbits of the planets, comets and asteroids. With
TheSky’s new movie recording features, impress your friends by making a
movie of an upcoming astronomical event. Version 5 also lets you display
the motion of artificial satellites, like the Space Shuttle or
International Space Station, as they stream across the virtual sky in
real-time. To keep you up to date, TheSky’s direct links to the Internet
give immediate access to rapidly changing astronomical data. You can even
sit back and witness a spectacular sunset or total solar eclipse with the
new Daytime Sky mode.

TheSky is available in three
separate "Levels," called Level II, II and IV. New with version
5, all Levels come complete with the Hipparcos Tycho Catalogs, the Guide
Star Catalog and tens of thousands of non-stellar objects, such as
galaxies, clusters, and nebulae (about 19 million objects in all). Each
Level is loaded with stunning pictures of your favorite deep-space
objects, including "thumbnails" of every NGC object — over
13,000 in Level II alone. Level III and IV boast an astonishing thumbnail
picture database of over 70,000 galaxies. A must-have upgrade for the
serious amateur.
"The latest release of TheSky is
packed with features that are just fun to play with and also gives amateur
astronomers an unprecedented set of tools with which to study the
heavens," said Software Bisque president Steve Bisque. "Not only
have amateurs recently discovered supernovae, variable stars and several
minor planets with help from TheSky version 5, my six year old daughter,
who loves to play with TheSky, can boast, ‘Look, daddy, I’m making the
sun go down!’"
