Advice Required for Vixen Sphinx mount and DSC enabbled reflector

Hi,  i have two telescope mounts - one is a vixen sphinx and the other is a alt-az mount(taking delivery in the next two weeks) with 4000 tic encoders.  I am thinking of using a pocket pc to control/point both mounts. The alt-az mount comes with a cable but no controller eg Sky Commander etc.. I am not happy with the Starbook database. And therefore am looking for a solution for both mounts.

I would like to limit the device to a Pocket Pc with The Sky pocket version but I read that the Sphinx isnt supported by the Pocket version.  Is that going to be changed anytime soon?

    regards

    Joyce

Not immediately. TheSkyX Serious and Pro are currently in the works. After that, new features can be added to TheSky Pocket Edition (and, FWIW, the next version of TheSky PE will be based on TheSkyX).

Thanks Daniel for the quick response.

I will get the main Sky version for my laptop and control the mounts from there.

Can i clarify on the connection for the Sphinx mount - the website refers to a cross over ethernet cable which is to be connected to the Starbook from the laptop.  Can i use a USB to 9-pin D connector cable to connect the laptop directly to the mount, bypassing the Starbook?

For my DSC alt-az mount - i presume i will need to get the BBox as well.  It only comes with encoders and encoder cable.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.

    regards

As I understand, no. The cross over cable is required.

Correct. See this related thread: http://www.bisque.com/SC/forums/thread/13174.aspx
