Cancer the crab took part in an attack on
Hercules. While Hercules was
fighting with Hydra a nine-headed water
snake Cancer the crab crawled
toward Hercules and bit him on the foot.
Hercules crushed the crab and resumed his
battle with the Hydra. Hera, an enemy of
Hercules put the crab in the sky to
commemorate its feeble attempt to topple
Hercules. Cancer is the
dimmest constellation in the Zodiac; none of its stars are brighter
than fourth magnitude.
