Use these options to specify which object types will appear when Common Names labels are displayed.
Stars
Display the common names for stars.
Non-stellar
Display the common names for non-stellar objects, such as nebulae, galaxies and clusters.
Constellations
Display the names of the 88 constellations.
Messier
Display the Messier catalog numbers. The capital letter 'M,' for example, M 51, precedes the Messier catalog numbers.
Sun, Planets, Moons
Display the names of the sun, the Moon, the planets and the planets’ moons.
Bayer Designation
Display a Greek letter designating the relative magnitude of a star in a constellation, called its Bayer Designation. For example, the brightest star in Orion, Betelgeuse, is labeled alpha (
).
Flamsteed Designation
Display a number next to the brighter stars indicating their relative position (in increasing right ascension) in the sky.
Comets
Turn on and off comet name labeling. Only the active comets are labeled.
Minor Planets
Turn on or off labeling the minor planets. Only active minor planets and all current extended minor planets are labeled.
Note: If an option is marked and the label for that type of object does not appear, make sure that the corresponding object type is marked Visible in the Display Properties tab of the Properties dialog box.
