Use these options to specify which object types will appear when Common Names labels are displayed.

Stars

Display the common names for stars.

Non-stellar

Display the common names for non-stellar objects, such as nebulae, galaxies and clusters.

Constellations

Display the names of the 88 constellations.

Messier

Sun, Planets, Moons

Display the names of the sun, the Moon, the planets and the planets moons.

Bayer Designation

Display a Greek letter designating the relative magnitude of a star in a constellation, called its Bayer Designation. For example, the brightest star in Orion, Betelgeuse, is labeled alpha (SKY00090001.gif).

Flamsteed Designation

Display a number next to the brighter stars indicating their relative position (in increasing right ascension) in the sky.

Comets

Turn on and off comet name labeling. Only the active comets are labeled.

Minor Planets

Turn on or off labeling the minor planets. Only active minor planets and all current extended minor planets are labeled.

Note: If an option is marked and the label for that type of object does not appear, make sure that the corresponding object type is marked Visible in the Display Properties tab of the Properties dialog box.
