This page describes how to connect the Celestron Ultima 2000 telescope to your personal computer and how to setup TheSky to control the Ultima 2000.

Ultima 2000 Setup

  1. Plug the RJ11 end of the Telescope Interface Cable into the base of the Ultima 2000 hand paddle.

  2. Align the Celestron Ultima 2000 using the hand paddle's two star alignment procedure (see manufacturer's instructions for details). The Ultima 2000 must be aligned before the serial port on the hand paddle will function.

  3. From TheSky, click Telescope | Setup.

  4. Select Ultima 2000 by Celestron International from the Control System list.

  5. Click Settings to show the options for your device.  Make sure you have selected the correct communications port and baud rate (9600 baud), and then click OK.

  6. Check the options that you want to apply during a telescope link on the Telescope Settings dialog box.

  7. Click Close.

  8. Click Telescope | Link | Establish.

  9. Point the telescope at any known object, such as Sirius. From TheSky, click Edit | Find and then enter the name of this object in the Find text box ("Sirius" for this example).

  10. Click Find to display the Object Information dialog box (see figure below).

  11. On the Telescope Tab, click Sync.

The Virtual Sky will show the telescope cross hair indicating the location of the telescope.

Point and click on any object, and then click Slew to have the telescope slew to it.
