Toolbars

TheSky6 contains toolbars with buttons to access frequently used commands. Each toolbar, and the commands associated with each toolbar button, is described below.

 

To hide or display toolbars, click the Toolbars Setup command on the View menu to display the Toolbars dialog box (ALT, V, T, T).  Or, right click the mouse to display the toolbar pop up menu.

 

Standard Toolbar

 

 

 

Click

To

Create a new Sky Document.

Open an existing Sky Document. Displays the Open dialog box, in which you can locate and open the desired file.

Save the active Sky Document with its current name. If you have not named the document, the Save As dialog box is displayed.

Copy the current Virtual Sky to the Clipboard.

Paste an image on the Virtual Sky to perform an Image Link (Professional Edition only).

Print the Virtual Sky.

Display the About TheSky dialog box to determine the version of TheSky.

To display the "Whats This?" cursor. Click this button, then click on the command or part of the screen you want to learn more about

 

 

Orientation Toolbar

 

 

Click

To

Scroll display down (as if you were moving your head upward).

Scroll display up (as if you were moving your head downward).

Scroll display to the right (as if you were moving your head to the left).

Scroll display to the left (as if you were moving your head to the right).

Zoom In

Decrease the current field of view.

Increase the current field of view.

Display the Rotate Tool to rotate the Virtual Sky to any orientation.

Enter the Free Rotation mode.

The north celestial pole is always toward the top of the screen.

Orient the zenith so that its always toward the top of the screen.

Look to the North.

Look to the East.

Look to the South.

Look to the West.

Look directly overhead (straight up).

 


View Toolbar

 

 

Click

To

Show or hide the Display Explorer.

Enter or exit the 3D Solar System Mode.

Turn on or off the Daytime Sky Mode.

Turn on or off the horizon-based coordinate grid.

Turn on or off an equatorial coordinate grid.

Turn on or off the constellation figures.

Turn on or off constellation boundaries.

Display the Field of View Indicators dialog box.

Turn on or off the labels for the common names of objects.

Turn on or off the extended labels.

Turn on or off the Stellar Options dialog box.

Turn the screen red for night vision adaptation.

Remove the window borders and show a full screen view of the Virtual Sky.

 


Objects Toolbar

To

Display the Find dialog box.

Turn on or off all stars.

Turn on or off all double stars.

Turn on or off all variable stars.

Turn on or off the galaxies.

Turn on or off all clusters.

Turn on or off all nebulas.

 

Time Skip Toolbar

 

Horizontal Orientation

Vertical Orientation

 

The Time Skip toolbar allows you to control the flow of time from a toolbar window, rather than from the Time dialog box.

 

Click

To

Displays the Time dialog box. (Vertical Time Skip toolbar only.)

 

Select from a list of pre-defined time-skip increments, or manually enter a user-defined time-skip increment.

Sets the date and time back to the beginning of the time skip.

Begins a time skip, moving backward time.

Step backward in time by one time skip increment.

Stop the current time skip.

Step forward in time by one time skip increment.

Begins a time skip, moving forward in time.  

Click this button to display the Object Paths dialog box.  

Set TheSky6's time to use the computer's clock and reset the time-skip increment to 1x (real time).

 


Telescope Toolbar

 

 

Click

To

Show the Telescope Setup dialog box.

Establish communications with the telescope control system.

Temporarily suspends communications with the telescope control system (without breaking the link). This button is only available when a telescope link is established.

Terminate communications with the telescope control system.

 


Image Link Toolbar

Display the Image Link Setup dialog box.

Create an image from the Digitized Sky Survey.

Edit the Digitized Sky Survey image.

Display or hide the current image.

Activate the Image Link Wizard to automatically align the digital image with the graphical Virtual Sky.
