Cherry Springs
Richard S. Wright Jr.'s Blog

Well I am finally home from a back-to-back travel extravaganza. My last blog chronicled my adventures in Arizona for the PixInsight workshop we helped to sponsor, and now I'm back from the Cherry Springs star party, which is held at the Cherry Springs (where else?) state park in Pennsylvania. The weather this year did not permit any real imaging, and as a departure from my normal star party mode, I actually just setup in the vendor tent this year.

I had a great time with the other vendors and with the customers. I think in the future I'm going to have more a presence here in the vendor tent, at least at this particular star party. It's very well attended (it's an island - no, an oasis, in the middle of a very light polluted North Eastern USA!), and the patrons are pretty spread out. Being in the vendor area allowed me to interact with a lot more people, and being with my fellow vendors was also great experience. The tent was also great shelter from the weather... clouds... rain... and one pretty big storm that killed power for a bit Saturday night. There was even a tornado spotted at the adjacent state park and some trees and cars were damaged! Fortunately no one was hurt. The funny thing is we had a tropical system "brush" by Florida and we had unusually good skies here along the edges of it... while I was gone...  I'm wondering if I should move to California to help end their drought sometimes!

I was setup right next to Al Nagler and TeleVue.

My next adventure is the Nebraska Star Party next month, and then this fall we have AIC (I'm giving a talk on DSLR Astrophotography btw), and I'm also speaking at the Chiefland Star Party (kind-a-sort-a under new management) in November. For the next few weeks though, I finally get to stay home and maybe get some coding and debugging done. I have updates to the iOS app about ready to roll out, some progress on our Linux/Raspberry Pi project, and a lot of device support to work on. There's also some stuff in TheSkyX that needs my attention. I do enjoy traveling, but it will be nice to spend some time in the office and just in my own backyard for a little bit now!

Richard - did you figure out how to pack that tripod for the MyT??

I have an idea but wanted to see what you came up with.

Robert, no not yet. I thought I could get it into my big blue case if I trimmed the foam, but that won't work either. I'm going to have to bring two cases it seems, or find one slightly larger. Still working the problem... I'm flying to the Nebraska Star Party in a couple of weeks, I hate to give up and ship everything there UPS.
