Software Bisque Knowledge Base Article - 1230

I want to share, or attach a file (photo, text file, FITS, TPoint settings, etc.) in a post to one of the Software Bisque Community Forums.  How do I do so?

The Software Bisque Community Forums can accept limited types of files, with limited sizes.  The following describes how to do so.

If you wish to share files larger than 10 MB (for example, FITS files from large format cameras, videos, mosaics, etc.), please use a file sharing service such as Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive, or Dropbox (the latter two offer limited amounts of file storage for free).  A link (URL) can be pasted into your support post so that others can see the file.

  1. Create a new post on a Software Bisque Community Forum.  See "How do I post a question?" for details.  IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure to post your question to the appropriate forum.  If your account does not have a registered license for a particular forum, posting files will not be permitted.  For example, if you have registered your TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition serial number, you will not be permitted to attach files to posts made in TheSkyX Professional Edition support forum.
  2. On the Post a Message window, click the Options tab.
  3. On the Options tab, click the Add/Update File Attachment button.
  4. Click the Choose File (or the Browse button in IE) to show the Choose File to Upload* window then navigate to the folder on your computer that holds the file.
  5. Highlight the file you want to attach to your post.
  6. Click the Open button.
  7. Click the Save button.
  8. When your post is ready, click the Post button.

The file is now attached to the post.

*Software Bisque Forums File Sharing Limitations:

  • Before posting an attachment, the best practice is to use a compression tool (zip, tar or other method) to compress the file(s), then attach the resulting '.zip' file.
  • To mitigate potential malicious attachments, executables (ending with .exe, .bin, etc.), scripts (ending with .vbs, etc.) are not permitted.  If you need to post a file that has a different format, use a compression software and "zip" the file(s) first.
  • If you need to post multiple files, you can either compress them into a single zip file, or create a folder on a shared file server, and upload them to this folder, then share a link to the folder that contains the files.
  • Attachments cannot exceed 10MB in size. If the compressed file or files are larger than 10MB, consider using a free file sharing service (such as DropBox) and post the public URL to download the file.

  • All Software Bisque support requests.
