I just purchased theskyx serious astronomer to use it to drive my meade lx850 mount so I could use other ascom software like Prism or maxim. I downloaded the ascom 2x mount adapter and was testing it with an ioptron smarteq mount. The mount is working with the skyx but fails to connect with Prism via the selected ascom 2x mount adapter. The log files are attached. The reason I am testing with this mount is because the lx850 is in a remote area and I want to make sure Prism can connect with theskyx via the ascom 2x mount adapter before I leave to hook up the lx850 mount. Any help would be well appreciated. Thanks, Mark

The above error indicates TheSkyX's thesky6RASCOMTele object cannot be created.  Try running TheSkyX as an Administrator (once), and retrying.  Any difference?

The reason I am testing with this mount is because the lx850 is in a remote area and I want to make sure Prism can connect with theskyx via the ascom 2x mount adapter before I leave to hook up the lx850 mount.

You could also perform such a test using the mount simulator in TheSkyX. To do this, from the Choose Mount window select the Software Bisque / Telescope Mount Simulator.

Further, with TheSkyX running, you can start a second instance of it (you'll probably be asked to enter your name and serial number again) and configure the latter to use the ASCOM Mount option. Since you have installed the Ascom2XMount Adapter, you'll then be able to operate, from the second instance of TheSkyX, the mount (simulated or otherwise) hosted by the first instance.

Still can not connect to ascom 2x mount adapter. Ran theskyx as Administrator. Ran Prism as Admistrator. Reinstalled Ascom 2x mount adapter. No luck. Tried more than 20 times. Here are the last couple of logs. Prism connects to all ascom mounts so I can not understand why I can not get it to connect to the ascom 2x mount adapter. I am using windows 10. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Still can not connect to ascom 2x mount adapter.

Did you try to do so from a second instance of TheSkyX, or only from Prism? Have you tried connecting any other ASCOM application with TheSkyX?

mark j smith:
Ran theskyx as Administrator. Ran Prism as Admistrator.

The request was that you do this only once, which allows TheSkyX to create the necessary entries in the Registry. Once that is done, you should no longer run TheSkyX or Prism with the As Administrator option.

I don't think there's been much discussion of Prism on our forums, but I did find this thread from just over a year ago (you may not be able to access that, as it is on our Paramount MX forum). That also discusses an "object reference not set to an instance of an object" Prism error, though it related to certain specific commands (sync and park); there was no problem establishing a connection. Further, those particular issues should not affect the build of TheSkyX you're using.

It might help if you would share your settings from the ASCOM "TheSky Controlled Driver Setup" window (a screenshot would be fine). Here's how to capture a screenshot: Windows, Mac. And here's our knowledge base article on How to Share Files on the Software Bisque Community Forums.

I tried connecting with PHD2, Backyard EOS and Prism and none were able to connect with the ascom 2x mount adapter. They all can connect with other ascom telescope drivers. So It must be something with the way ascom 2x mount adapter is set up on my computer. I am at work but will continue to research it more when I get home. I tried various different settings on the ASCOM TheSky Controlled Setup window Yesterday to see if that would make any difference but it didn't. Thanks, Mark

I almost made the same suggestion, but then remembered that Mark is using TheSkyX Serious Astronomer Edition. I believe he is as up-to-date as possible.

Oh, rats.  My bad, I missed the Edition previously.

TheSkyX Professional Edition is required to access scriptable objects, including the Ascom2XMount Adapter.

Consider purchasing the Serious to Professional Edition Upgrade to allow third-party automation/control.

Just purchased the upgrade and downloaded and installed TheSkyX Professional Edition. Still could not connect, then I realized that when ever I open up the SkyX professional it is only running the skyx serious astronomer edition. I tried reinstalling it ...no luck. There was no new serial number on my subscriptions so the only thing I could think of was entering my same serial number.   Very frustrating. What should I do now?

Might you have used your Serious Astronomer serial number when activating the Professional Edition? In any case, please see our knowledge base article on Changing TheSkyX's Serial Number.

EDIT: Sorry, I missed that you said you'd used the same serial number. I'll take a look at your member account and report back.

As you report, for some reason there is no serial number for your TSX Serious-Pro upgrade shown on your Subscriptions page. I'm now asking our Front Desk staff to correct that; we'll try to let you know as soon as it is done (hopefully today, but I can't promise so).

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Still no serial number. I really need that number because I want to go to my main telescope this weekend and there is no internet or cell coverage.

Thanks, Mark

Finally got the serial number. Edited it into AppSettings.ini file and everything is working. The Ascom2x mount adapter is connecting without any problems. Thanks, Mark
