Hello,

I'm looking for assistance with the TeleAPI plugin error I am receiving. I am running TheSky6 connected to an Atlas EQG mount using EQMOD. I am using ASCOM 5b.

Due to the EQMOD driver not being available in TheSky6, I must use the ASCOM driver "TeleAPI.dll".

I have been receiving errors recently stating "The selected telescope driver is missing the right ascension property"

Does anyone know what might be causing this error and how I might correct it?

Thanks in advance,

Barry

Did you see the answer to your question here: http://answers.ascom-standards.org/questions/257/the-sky-teleapi-error?

Does it help?

Daniel,

Thank you for your response. I did see that answer yesterday, and I have posted my question on the EQMOD Yahoo group but have yet to have a response. I beleive this is an error with The Sky program though as it seems to be dropping the driver occasionally.

Do you have any suggestions as to how I can verify the source of the error?

Best regards,

Barry

There are no known issues with TheSky6 and the TeleAPI.  In other words, a properly written dynamic-link library that exploits the TeleAPI interfaces should work reliably.

Here's what needs to be done:

  1. Determine the procedure to reproduce the behavior. (This can be difficult.)  Any information you can provide along these lines can help.    For example, what OS?  Are all the latest versions of the software involved installed?  What other applications are running when the behavior occurs?  Does temporarily disabling all AV/firewall/etc. software (and unplugging your network cable, of course) change the behavior?
  2. SB+you can work with the developer of the third-party EQMOD driver to determine why TheSky6 fails using it.

Do you have a contact for the author of this third-party driver?

Daniel,

Thank you again for your quick response. I am very pleased with your reaction time and your willingness to help me resolve this problem regardless of which program is causing it.

To answer your questions above:

WinXP sp3
The Sky6 Pro v 6.0.0.32
The Sky Telescope 5.0.3
Setup ASCOM telescope driver
ASCOM 5b
EQMOD v 1.20J (latest version)
PHD Guiding 1.11.0 using "Pulse guiding"
Maxim DSLR 5.08

Windows task Manager and McAfee are the only other programs running.

Haven't tried deactivating the firewall yet. Running a test right now and if it crashes again I will try it.

I have been in contact with both ASCOM as you saw in a previous message and I have also been speaking to the EQMOD software developer. He has suggested using the logging capability for both ASCOM and EQMOD, so I am doing so in order to supply everyone with further information as to what is causing this error to occur.

I will update you further with my findings.

Once again, I thank you for your assistance,

Barry

Daniel,

Just a quick update on my progress. I have downloaded a new updated version of EQMOD at the request of the developer which had changes to the logging capabilities. Since doing so, however, I have not experienced any crashing issues. As I think this is a coincidence,  I will continue to log the program's progress and if any further issues arrise, I will copy the file and update you.

Thanks again for your assistance,

Best regards,

Barry

Daniel,

I'm afraid my problems have returned. In working with the developer of EQMOD, we have logged and determined the TeleAPI plugin is instructing the EQMOD program to close. EQMOD is the program commanding the EQ-G mount. The developer of the program is Chris and his email is: chris@armourinfocus.co.uk

Here is a sample of the log including the last instruction to close the program.

When I sent this log to Chris he evaluated and responded with the following:

Hi Barry,

Oh, sorry to hear your problem has come back I wonder what has changed?

The log just tells us that a client application (teleapi ?) was happily polling EQASCOM for RA and DEC (every 500ms or so) and then EQASCOM was instructed to close (the last entry).

So EQASCOM isn't crashing but rather the client app has purposely decided to shut it down for some reason.

Chris.

I'm hoping you can assist.

Best regards,

Barry
