    System requirements

I have an Apple G4 desktop. It needs a new driver or whatever for the video card. I attempted to download such a driver but I hit a snag because the download site didn't have a driver that matched the data given to me by THE SKY's checking software. It would help if I knew the terminology. I need a bit of help with downloading whatever it is to make my system compatible with THE SKY.

From your Mac, click Apple > Software Updates to obtain the latest video drivers for your computer. (Mac video drivers are distributed with OS updates.)

OS X version 10.5.5 (the latest OS to date) is ideal.

    Re: System requirements

Daniel, thanks for the quick reply. I followed your instructions and got a window saying that there were no new updates for my system. Unfortunately, I MUST stay with 10.4.X because I have an Imacon film scanner that most likely will not allow my computer to boot up after an upgrade. This did happen when I upgraded from 10.3.X which I had to do to install Photoshop CS which I'd been forced to install because Photoshop 7 could not decipher the RAW files from my then newly acquired Canon 5D. When I was done with all the installing, the computer would not boot up. After about 10 hours of on-line research, I found someone who knew what the trouble was and had just the card to fix it. Four hundred some dollars later, I was back in business. And I don't want to tempt fate with another upgrade. When I ran your site's checking software on my system, it directed me to get a download which did not match anything I saw at the download site. Arggh. I've been wanting to take an armchair voyage around the galaxy, with special reference to our backyard, of course, since, oh, about 1952 when I read Heinlein's THE RED PLANET. I was referred to your site by an astronomer, Mike Leigh, in Julian, California. Is all hope lost if I can't identify and download the proper video card driver? Do I have to buy a rocket ship?

Sorry about all the troubles, surely not "Mac-esk"...

SB updated the Seeker Compatibility Test today (see this thread for the details why: http://www.bisque.com/sc/forums/t/6648.aspx)

The Seeker Compatibility Test application 1.0.1 (Build 20) is an internet-enabled disk image that should download, uncompress, and appear in the Downloads folder on your computer. Use Finder to run it.

Please let me know the results of this test (specifically, what is the exact wording of the message when the software is run, and the exact version of OpenGL listed, etc.).

    Thanks.

All hope is not lost. But, I must stress (again) that Mac video drivers are distributed with Mac OS updates only. Vendor-specific video driver downloads is a Windows-only issue.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer of this device to find out about the compatibility with OS X 10.5? Here's a related thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7257758
