The 1979 Isolated Triplets of Galaxies - Sky and Telescope

KTG 84 Galaxy Triplets based on the article in Sky and Telescope "Isolated Triplets".

To install:

  1. Download and unzip the files in this archive Isolated-Triplets-Groups.zip to the SDBs folder of TheSkyX's Application Support Files
  2. From TheSkyX, click the Database Manager command from the Input menu.
  3. Expand Sky Databases, then My Sky Databases and turn on the appropriate checkbox for this SDB.
  4. Once the downloaded file has been unzipped/extracted to the folder above it will appear in TheSkyX under Input>Database Manager>Sky Databases (SDBs)>My Sky Databases. To enable the SDB place a check here.

To search for a "Triplet" use Edit>Find {Triplet #}. This will find the Triplet group 1-84.

NOTE: For convenience the individual galaxies that make up a Triplet are placed in the information with these ID's.

You can also search for any individual galaxy within a group using Edit>Find KTG 01A. To find Galaxy 1 in the first group KTG #1. NOTE: The galaxies are cross referenced to the PGC Galaxy catalog. See here.

Note the NGC ID as well as many others are shown taken from the PGC data. Where PGC 2429 is also referred to as NGC 205.

The 1979 Isolated Triplets of Galaxies catalogue contains 84 northern hemisphere trios identified by Valentina Karachentseva and Igor Karachentseva through a visual inspection of the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey plates.
