Scheduled air date: 1999 Nov 22-28

The Waning Crescent Moon will appear to pass near the planet Venus and star Spica over the
mornings of December 2nd, 3rd and 4th. While they will seem to be close together, in
reality the Moon is only about 1.5 light-seconds away, Venus about 8 light-minutes away,
and Spica 260 light-years away from Earth! (A light-second, light-minute and
light-year are the distances that light travels in one second, one minute, and one year,
respectively.)
(Shown about an hour before sunrise for mid-Northern latitudes.)
