"July's Fabulous Pre-dawn Celestial Extravaganza"

Scheduled air date: 2001 Jul 09-15

The planets Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn present a spectacular grouping in the pre-dawn sky for the next couple of weeks.  The four planets will form a double-duo on the morning of the 13th; the Waxing Crescent Moon will visit Venus, Saturn and the star Aldebaran on the 17th (see inset), and the almost-New Moon will appear just above Mercury on the 19th.
(Shown about an hour before sunrise for mid-Northern latitudes.)
