Scheduled air date: 2002 Nov 25-Dec 01

The Waning Crescent Moon will appear to pass near the two planets whose orbits are closest to Earth's—Venus and Mars—in the morning sky this weekend.  The three will form a beautiful triangle on Sunday, December 1st (see inset), at which time the Earth will be 363,000 km/225,000 miles from the Moon, 57 million km/35 million miles from Venus, and 341 million km/212 million miles from Mars.
(Shown about an hour before sunrise for mid-Northern latitudes.)
