"A NEAT Little Comet for Your Weekend Viewing . . . Maybe!"

Scheduled air date: 2004 May 03-09

Comet NEAT should be visible in the evening skies this weekend as it passes closest to Earth on May 7th.  It will appear to move from near the bright star Sirius to near the not-as-bright star Procyon.  The ringed planet Saturn, dim red planet Mars and dazzlingly brilliant planet Venus are also nearby to the West.
(Shown about 90 minutes after sunset for mid-Northern latitudes.  The comet symbol shown is for illustration only; the appearance and brightness of the comet's tail is uncertain.)
