Mythology

Leo - The Lion

Leo represents a lion - the King of Beasts.  This particular lion was invulnerable to weapons and terrorized the town of Nemea. Hercules was given the task of killing the lion as the first of his twelve labors.  Hercules trapped Leo in his cave and killed him by choking it to death.  He then used the lion's own claws to skin it and wore the animal's skin as a cloak. The head of the constellation traces out a distinctive sickle shape in the sky. The brightest star in Leo is Regulus  which means little king.  The star at the end of Leo's tail is Denebola which means the lion's tail.
