The ARP
Sky Database
file
(SDB) is a catalog of 338 peculiar
galaxies compiled by Dr. Halton C. Arp. The ARP SDB contains peculiar and strange galaxies
that are either interacting pairs or contained in larger groups. The Arp catalog was
created from photographs taken with the Palomar 200-inch telescope in 1966. Using
TheSky the Arp Catalog
was compiled into an SDB file. When the SDB is active you can see where the Arp galaxies are
located, search them out by number, and even label them on the screen. Visit the Arp
Glaxy Home Page.
NOTE: TheSky6 users!
Because TheSky6 already has
the cross reference to the PGC catalog the Arp SDB is not actually required! The
following shows how to find the ARP objects located under the PGC Cross Reference
heading. The cross reference is located
under PGC Cross Reference | Arp. Or simply use Edit | Find ARP NUMBER. As in
Edit Find ARP 85.
