Standard Features

The optional Camera Add On to TheSkyX Professional Edition offers integrated telescope, camera, focuser, filter wheel, rotator and adaptive-optics control for your Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi (Single-Board Computer), Windows OS-based computer and includes the following standard features:

 

 

Feature

Control any two supported cameras simultaneously; one for imaging and one for autoguiding.

Autoguide and acquire FITS photos.

Perform automated focus (using @Focus2 or @Focus3).

Graph autoguiding metrics, including a 3D graph of the guide star, HFD, guider errors and more.

Acquire an unlimited number of series of photos, each with different exposure times, filter wheel settings, calibration and more to automate LRGB or any other filter sequence.

Automatically save photos (with highly flexible and configurable names and folders).

Built-in dithering using the Take Series command.

Create and apply master calibration frames.

Reduce photos (apply dark frame, bias and flat frames) using multiple CPUs when available.

Allows TheSkyX to provide, native, standalone, automated pointing calibration runs (the optional TPoint Add On required) for telescope modeling and accurate polar alignment. 

Allows TheSkyX to automatically determine your image scale with a single button click.

Scripted device control and image acquisition (using Java Script on macOS, Linux, and Windows or via COM automation on Windows).

The telescope's position (RA/Dec coordinates) are automatically added to the FITS header

Adjust photos' white and black points using a graphical histogram control.

Natively control many commercial cameras, focusers, filter wheels, AO devices, and rotators, on macOS, Linux and Windows.

Control all ASCOM-compliant hardware (Windows only).

Perform astrometric solutions using Image Link.

4 How to download the QHYCCD X2 Camera and Filter Wheel Plug In

 

5  Support for the Orion Starshoot Autoguider (SSAG) is deprecated.  (Windows users consider using the ASCOM driver instead.)

 

6 The Windows QSI camera and filter wheel X2 Plug In must be downloaded and installed separately from QSI's web site.  The macOS QSI camera and filter wheel X2 Plug In is included with the latest update and the latest daily build.

 

7 SBIG Device Support Disclaimers:

  

Current SBIG Device Support

  • The Camera Add On presently supports SBIG hardware through the original SBIG camera SDK, and original SBIG camera driver, only.

 

SBIG Aluma Camera Support (All operating systems)

  • Newer model SBIG Aluma cameras must be controlled with the new version of the SBIG camera driver.   

  • SBIG has released the new Software Development Kit (SDK).  

  • Software Bisque is working on a SBIG X2 Camera Plug In to natively support newer model SBIG cameras (as well as older model cameras).  In the meantime, use the SBIG ASCOM Camera plug in to control these model cameras (Windows only).

 

Legacy Model SBIG Camera Support on macOS

 

Please read this support post for instructions how to disable SIP on macOS so that the SBIG driver can be installed to allow SBIG device control.

 

Linux Support

  • Users report mixed results controlling legacy SBIG devices on Linux.  

 

 

8 The camera simulator can be used to acquire photos from the Digitized Sky Survey from a web-based source, or from the 10x-compressed Digitized Sky Survey distributed as part of TheSkyX Pro Database Add On).

 

9 TheSkyX Pro Camera Add On for Windows can take photos from any video device that supports the Windows DirectShow media streaming architecture.
