ERROR MESSAGE “NO IMAGE FOUND TO EXTRACT” WHEN DISPLAYING A DIGITIZED SKY SURVEY IMAGE USING REALSKYVIEW

    ISSUE

When attempting to display Digitized Sky Survey images in TheSky6, the error message:

    “No image found to extract.”

    appears.

    RESOLUTION

This message indicates that the software used to retrieve Digitized Sky Survey images (either CCDSoft or RealSkyView) is not configured correctly.

    Important Digitized Sky Survey Notes

    • There are two applications that TheSky6 can use to retrieve Digitized Sky Survey images, either CCDSoft or RealSkyView. If CCDSoft is installed, use CCDSoft to retrieve Digitized Sky Survey images. Do not install or use RealSkyView to retrieve images.

    • If CCDSoft is installed, and RealSkyView is installed, then uninstall RealSkyView before proceeding. CCDSoft supercedes RealSkyView and should be used exclusively to retrieve and display Digitized Sky Survey images.

    CCDSoft

Make sure that you can retrieve Digitized Sky Survey images from CCDSoft (standalone) before attempting to retrieve them from TheSky6.

    1. Launch CCDSoft.
    2. Click Research Digitized Sky Survey | Target List.
    3. Select an object name from the Name list and then click View.
    4. Insert the correct CD-ROM number and then click OK.

Once images can be retrieved from CCDSoft, TheSky6 will be able to display them, too.

See Chapter 11: Displaying RealSky Image in CCDSoft in the CCDSoft PDF manual (page 379) for initial setup and troubleshooting details.

    RealSkyView

If you do not own CCDSoft, make sure that the latest version of RealSkyView is installed. See article 1051 for details.

Make sure that you can retrieve Digitized Sky Survey images from RealSkyView (standalone) before attempting to retrieve them from TheSky6.

    1. Launch RealSkyView.
    2. Click DSS | Target List.
    3. Select an object name from the Name list and then click View.
    4. Insert the correct CD-ROM number and then click OK.

Once images can be retrieved from RealSkyView, TheSky6 will be able to display them, too.

See Initial Setup (page 10) and Viewing the Images (page 13) in the RealSkyCD Guide for initial setup and image displaying details using RealSkyView.
