    THE “WSOCK32.DLL” FILE CANNOT START

    ISSUE

On attempting to launch TheSky, error message displayed:
“Error starting program. The ‘WSOCK32.DLL’ file cannot start.”
Choosing (OK) closes TheSky without displaying splash screen or otherwise.

    RESOLUTION

WSOCK32.DLL is a core component of the Windows 95/NT operating systems. Meaning, this file is installed when Windows 95 or NT is installed, and applications can rely on it being present on the system.

Verify that the file exists on the system (right-click Start, select Find). If it does exist, make sure the path is correct (../WINDOWS/SYSTEM). For Windows 95, this file should be version 4.00.950 (65KB).

As a last resort, reinstall Windows 95/NT.
