    REALSKYVIEW RETRIEVES IMAGES SLOWLY

    ISSUE

A 30×30 arc minute DSS image requires about 25-30 seconds to display. Then, from TheSky, an image in the same area, the same size, is retrieved faster.

    RESOLUTION

The speed at which a DSS image is retrieved depends upon whether or not the CD-ROM drive is currently mounted and/or if the header files from a particular area are cached in memory or not. Once the CD-ROM drive for an area is mounted, retrieving images is much faster. Also, if the header files for a particular area are in memory (from a previously retrieved image), the time required to display the new image may be significantly faster.
