    INSTALLING THESKY OR CCDSOFT UNDER WINDOWS 98

    ISSUE

    When installing TheSky version 4.00.2xx or later, or CCDSoft version 4.00.018 or later, the following error message is displayed: “A newer version of DCOM for Windows 95 had been installed.” To override, you must uninstall the current version first.”

    RESOLUTION

    When the installation error message: “A newer version of DCOM for Windows 95 had been installed.” To override, you must uninstall the current version first.” is encountered under Windows 98, click OK to continue.

    This is an expected error message and the contents of the message can be ignored.

    Explanation
    ========================================================
    “DCOM for Windows 95” is an update to the Windows 95 operating system required by TheSky and CCDSoft and is now incorporated into Windows 98. This error message indicates that a newer version of DCOM is present and the DCOM for Windows 95 installation application failed (as it should under Windows 98). No further action is required by the user.
